My Applied Practice Experience (APE) is with the UF Health Cancer Institute’s Office of Community Outreach & Engagement. The program works to reduce the cancer burden across 26 counties in Florida. It does this through partnerships with community members, health systems, and patients. The focus is on cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship. The program also addresses health disparities and promotes equitable access to screening and education.

A key component of my APE is the Mobile Cancer Screening Connector. This program brings cancer screening and navigation services directly into medically underserved communities. It helps reduce barriers such as transportation, cost, and limited access to care. The goal is to improve early detection and connect individuals to follow-up care and resources.

Through this experience, I gain hands-on exposure to community outreach, data management, and program evaluation. I work with diverse populations in both clinical and community settings. This APE has strengthened my ability to apply epidemiologic concepts in real-world practice. It has also improved my communication skills across cultural and language differences. Overall, this experience supports my goal of reducing health inequities and improving community health outcomes.
